Trackers of the world, unite! Cheap Trick will be releasing their brand new album, The Latest, on 8-track tape. No I am not joking, the format either you left for dead in the late 70′s or saw in your grandma’s closet (you know who you are) has always been loved by 8-track fiends, and it seems the band know this too, since some of their best music was released in 8-track’s heyday.

You can pre-order The Latest on 8-track by clicking here. Unfortunately it seems the 8-track tape has gone through some inflation, as the cost for one tape is $30. Ouch. Anyone who goes to thrift stores or charity shops knows that the average 8-track tape goes for 25 cents, which means that for $30 you can get 120 other albums on 8-track tapes. If you know of a store that sells 8-track tapes for 10 cents, even more music to enjoy.

In other words, you’re going to have to be a diehard Cheap Trick fan, an 8-track enthusiast, or a collector in order to really want this. It would have been better if the album was released as a quad 8-track, now that would’ve paid for.

Nonetheless, let’s see how many mainstream artists will follow Cheap Trick’s, ahem, tracks.
