SOME STUFFS: Cast Spells’ “Bright Works And Baton”

free image hosting Now this is an interesting EP, this Bright Works And Baton (Sargent House) by Cast Spells, a new project by Maps & Atlases member David Davison.

This 6-song EP sounds like what would happen if you brought together Peter Gabriel, Dave Matthews, and They Might Be Giants and told them to shed the ego and just jam. The songs are great storytelling songs, something that will appeal to those who want to share not only the fabric of America, but also who want to simply tell the tales of living in this world, in this time, in this place, in a land of confusion. “War Story Hellos”, the song that closes this EP, could easily be championed by a number of artists as it speaks on the story of someone who returns home after being at war, and find himself and his home more weary than before. If attention is brought towards this song, I think many will find Cast Spells and Davison to be a talent to explore in the 10′s.

When I say “its”, I mean Cast Spells, and “Glamorous Glowing” sounds like what Peter Gabriel would sound like if he was backed by They Might Be Giants. The song is from their 2009 EP Bright Works and Baton, my review of which can be read here. [...]
