REVIEW: Mystic Harmony’s “Mystic Christmas”

Christmas music started blaring on local radio the day after Halloween, so I avoid that station at all times. Another station has entered the Christmas rush. Fortunately I can just hook up my iPod and listen to Crap From The Past, but I wanted to hear what Mystic Harmony were about.

They are a trio of ladies who perform these Christmas songs with some beautiful vocal harmonies, and it’s actually quite pleasant to listen to, especially “Coventry Carol”, “Gabriel’s Merssage”, and “In The Bleak Midwinter”. I think when I saw the album cover, I read it as Celtic Christmas so I immediately thought “oh no”. Not that I expected Celtic Frost or anything, but I already perceived something incorrectly. The arrangements are nice enough to where it doesn’t sound like the heap of other Christmas albums, and you may make this one a repeat listen even outside of the holiday season. It caught me by surprise, I must say that.

He goes by Quelle Christopher but you’ll want to know him simply as Quelle. He’s a Detroit producer who is offering up an album for free download, and it shows what hip-hop will embrace in the just-around-the-corner decade. Download and listen.
