RECORD CRACK: People In A Position To Know create incredible looking record book set

A lot of people in 2010 have been talking about a vinyl renaissance, which is cool because it introduces new people to the world of vinyl, and those who discarded the format are rediscovering what they had abandoned. People In A Position To Know (PIAPTK) are an Olympia, Washington based label who release records in ways that are not what you normally see, and even the most elitist of vinyl junkies will get excited over what they present to the world. This new release is one of the most incredible looking records I have ever seen.

An explanation. This is a book created from old Reader’s Digest books. They are reconfigured to hold four different 5 inch lathe cut records. Each record is the size of a normal compact disc, features two songs by each of the four bands: Graves, Golden Boots, Turner Cody, and Southerly. Inside of the book are silkscreened pages of art from the bands, and a lathe cut CD with all of the songs found on the 5″ records. Lathe cut CD? Yes. The CD features all eight songs on the records, and on the outer edge of the playing surface are grooves, which feature what is described as a micro mash-up of all eight songs. Each “book” set involved a four hour process to put together, so to say it’s labor intensive is putting it lightly.
