VIDEO: Prie’s “Moment For Life”

Prie continues to make a name for himself with some great songs and a style that I enjoy listening to, and now he’s trying something that hasn’t been done: a cover version of a Nicki Minaj song. You’re probably thinking “wait, I can go to YouTube and find tons” but can you find a cover done by a guy, and one that’s serious and not a parody? You may be able to (and I’m sure there are), but you’re not going to find one this good.

If you like Prie’s approach, let him know by contacting him via Twitter: @PRIE808. I’m sure he’d be up to doing collaborations, and maybe some of you may have enough faith in him to want to do some shows outside of Hawai’i. Make it happen.

RECORD CRACK: Daptone Records release new 45 by Bob & Gene

Photobucket
I’m so behind on my Daptone Records discography it’s not funny, but I do try my best to get what they release when I can. This is one I must have, as the label brings back two more tracks from the vaults of Bob & Gene, “It’s Not What You Know” b/w “Lonely Night”, and this one is circa 1970/1971, at what the label calls “the tail end of the “Bob & Gene” era”, so both singers do this with incredible effort.

What you’ll also notice is that the 45 comes with a picture sleeve of Bob & Gene live. What I love about the pic is the guy in the background, back to the audience, ready to unleash his trumpet when the time is right.

The 45 can be ordered directly from Daptone, so get to it.

VIDEO: Thadwick Tristen Trevor III & Swan Coltrane’s “Brain Champagne”

THADWICK TRISTEN TREVOR lll & SWAN COLTRANE – “Brain Champagne” (Official Music Video) from Stephan Gray on Vimeo.

1) I love the vibe of this song and video, very cool.
2) Love the fact that it’s from Seattle, I want to thank 104rog for pointing this to my digital attention.
3) I like the idea that one of the guy’s names is Swan Coltrane and that the song is called “Brain Champagne”, but in other countries, “Brain Champagne” would not rhyme. It would read like “Brain Shahm-pahn-yay”. Despite that, a fine track representing the 206. The song is from their album Adventures In A Helluvastate, which is available for free digitally (click the Bandcamp player below). The video was directed by Stephan Gray.
