AUDIO: Soul Cycle featuring Gretchen Parlato’s “You’ve Got A Friend”

40 years ago, singer/songwriter Carole King released her seminal album, Tapestry, and literally turned over the world with her style of songs. Each of the songs would go on their own individual paths, including “You’ve Got A Friend”, which was covered by James Taylor, thus becoming one of his biggest hits. Roberta Flack Donny Hathaway also made it their own when they recorded and released it as a single on Atlantic in 1971.
40 years later, “You’ve Got A Friend” is taken through n updated soulful polish with the band Soul Cycle. With help from vocalist Gretchen Parlat‘s, whose performance sounds a lot like Amel Larrieux, “You’ve Got A Friend” is given a new light at a time when perhaps the world should make an effort to acknowledge and strengthen friendships. It’s a great song, and with luck this will gain a lot of attention.
The song will be released on the group’s forthcoming album, Homebrew, scheduled for release in September. You can hear some of their earlier works by clicking to the band’s Bandcamp page.
