This Is Book's Music

Let’s do a bit of pros and cons with this one, beginning with cons. I hope that this song is not an effort to try to do what Rihanna is doing, which is to cash in with her pop success by creating what they think pop music is.

Pro: NexCyx is the name of the band, and the good thing is that they are a band. Lihe Rihanna, NexCyx are from Barbados. Mahalia is the vocalist so there might be a push for her to eventually branch out on her own, and fortunately she’s not only the singer and the face, but she writes the songs too. With that said, the band can play decently and while this song probably doesn’t hint at what they’re capable of, what I do hear is a group who could pull off something much bigger than Rihanna. That is, if music fans want that and if the music industry is willing to pave a way for them, which they should.

If Rihanna has made it possible for people to focus on what’s going on in Barbados, then I hope NexCyx will continue this on their own path, as I hear something that could take them to new places.
