VIDEO: The Amourists’ “Rebound Man”

The Amourists – Rebound Man from Nicole Nodland on Vimeo.

The end of 2011 is still a bit away, but that’s okay, for that means 2012 will be around the corner. That’s the year you will be hearing a bit from a British band called The Amourists, so make an effort to be one of the first people to hear this song and see this video. The song is from the band’s forthcoming debut album, Clear Recent History, and what the group does is take a few cues from London’s music and fashion past, and creates something audibly and visually, I don’t normally use this word but I will do it here, stunning. WHOA! Stunning. Yes, I’m freaked out by this and I may have to end this paragraph early because I don’t

If you like what you see and hear, you’re able to hear more with “Moneyshot”, which may or may not be as explosive as the title indicates. It’s yours for the taking.

SOME STUFFS: ALERT! ALERT! Alert New London are calling

Photobucket
Columbus, Ohio is a city that has had a tradition for coming up with some good, great, and incredible bands, and perhaps fans and critics will want to add Alert New London to the list someday. These guys add some of the Simon LeBon-style vocal dynamics and add it over the kind of jingle-jangle riffs that sound more like early 80′s college rock than anything passing off as “trendy” these days. Let’s face it, you’re not a hipster and you want to listen to things for yourself, so listen to this song and be the judge.

“Silverdrive” is a song from the band’s forthcoming Youth album (which they’re releasing themselves), scheduled for release on November 15th. Fans in Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri will be treated to a number of shows in the coming weeks:

10/21 Dayton, OH @ Blind Bob’s
10/29 Columbus, OH @ Kobo Live
11/11 Columbus, OH @ Kobo Live
11/18 Indianapolis, IN @ The Volrath
11/19 St. Louis, MO @ The Heavu Anchor
12/02 Cincinnati, OH @ The Mad Frog
12/03 Toledo, OH @ Ottawa Tavern

REVIEW: Suffocate’s “Return To Despair”

Photobucket Oakland’s Suffokate play the kind of speedy death metal (known as deathcore in some circles) that sounds like metallica vomit. Imagine the old Seattle band The Accused regurgigating rhythmically with some nu-metal groove, adn you have Suffokate, who will definitely please fans as they return with album #2.

Return To Despair (Mediaskare) is music written from the perspective of what sound like a post-apocalyptic world, but when you listen to a track like “Always Hopeless”, this is basically the pain and suffering a lot of us go through on a daily basis. It’s about not wanting to deal with the reality of the real world, wishing we could close our eyes and wish things away, but knowing we can’t. It’s about the loss of friends and family, and hoping one doesn’t lose ones sanity. What I also like about these guys is that their vocalists go back and forth between the cookie monster gruffness to the shrill screamo slams that is not unlike two MC’s in hip-hop with two completely flows and styles, but manage to balance things out with what and how they say it. One might tend to hear the powerful riffs and arrangements of these songs, but listen deeper and you’ll hear the kind of lyrics that are pretty much non-existent in a lot of popular music. Then again, when has the best metal ever been that metal happy? Suffokate play music that has a specific audience, and yet anyone who is willing to listen to these guys will discover some very well-written stories of something we all struggle with, and that is ourselves.

REVIEW: The Reveling’s “Tributaries”

Photobucket This one came out at the end of the spring, but didn’t get this until recently. The Reveling offer up some nice pop-infused punk that will be enjoyed by fans of early Green Day, Operation Ivy, or the style of music that The Buzzcocks were known for.

There are only 10 songs on this, so it goes to the throat and just does its thing without making too much issues. No album concepts, no progressiveness, just good pop punk that are perfect for college radio and anyone who loves good rock’n'roll with harmonies and a passion.

SOME STUFFS: Residual Kid are the future

Photobucket
Residual Kid aren’t called that because they want to sound young and spunky. No, the band consists of kids, with two 13-years olds and two 11-year olds. They are based out of Austin, Texas, a place known for its rich music and food truck scenes, so it would make sense for the music to rub off on the youngins. The bio says they all met at rock camp two years ago, which means these guys were 11 and 9 when they realized they should unite and try to see what they could do. Grace London is the band’s guitarist and sole girl, but they realized she complimented their sound quite well.

The real question though is can they pull it off? Have a listen.

The group released their debut EP today called Box, and if you’re in Austin this Thursday (October 13th), they will be at the Mohawk for a Disastronauts benefits concert, where Boy + Kite, Black Books, and La Snacks will be playing. The show starts at 9:30pm, and free pizza will be be served courtesy of Salvation Pizza while supplies last. Outside of musicians and music fans, you also have four young people who will be hungry after the show.

If you’d like to know more about Residual Kid, follow them on Twitter, and definitely show some support if they happen to be near listening range.
