REVIEW: Dickkicker’s “The End” (EP)
I first heard of Dickkicker almost two years ago upon doing a search at Bandcamp, or it may have been from a review I had read of their EP, Somniloquent. They had mixed up elements of sludge and stoner metal but with a very big punk rock attitude. They had the grooves, the dirges, everything, and they went in and out quickly so they could move on to the next song.
It came as a huge surprise to me when I found out a few weeks ago that this Tallahassee, Florida band had called it a day, and The End is literally the end for them, as they did their last shows last month and quit making music. The End was released in February, so Dickkicker fans are fully aware that the group is no more. Everything that made Somniloquent work is all here, and when they get to the last and final song, I wish they could have expanded it and went another two to four minutes to make it a true funeral dirge. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be, maybe that would’ve went beyond what Dickkicker felt they represented but I was a fan, and will remain so for the material they released in their short existence.
Thanks, gentlemen.
