FREE MP3 DOWNLOAD: Alameda’s “Summer Dharma”

On the surface, Alameda’s “Summer Dharma” sounds like something you might hear on one of many “best hits today” radio stations out in the world. The string section tends to make it sound perfect for a new romantic comedy film. The handclaps in the background during sections shows that there’s more to this song than the surface, and if you distance yourself from it, you tend to want to apply a harder edge to the song, perhaps something with a punk edge. The stripped down approach may make some thing it sounds like a cross between Kansas and Toad The Wet Sprocket, as it is heartfelt but without being too sappy. There’s a sense of… I don’t know. There’s something to this song that I really like, perhaps it’s hearing something that sounds soft and delicate but its power lies in what’s behind the door.

The song is from the band’s forthcoming album Procession, due out September 15th on False Migration Records.
