DeVotchKa are a band consisting of Shawn King (drums, percussion, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, viola, accordion, piano), Jeanie Schroder (acoustic bass, sousaphone), and Nick Urata (vocals, guitars, Theremin, trumpet, piano). Based on the instruments they play, I’d say they are willing to challenge themselves by bringing their talents into their music as a group. If you haven’t heard of them before, you’re not alone, but don’t be surprised if one of your friends is a DeVotchKa enthusiast, as they’ve been around for over ten years. For their latest album, Hagerman spent some time to create arrangements for their collaboration with a 60-piece orchestra. The end result is an album that will be out on November 13th called DeVotchKa Live With the Colorado Symphony (Cicero Recordings LTD), and the end result is bold and beautiful. Check out “Along The Way” and if you like what you hear, you can pre-order the album directly from the band.
They have a few shows coming up, check them out if you can.
