PLEDGE DRIVE: Keep this website alive by making a donation to ThisIsBooksMusic.com

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It is that time of the year where I have to bring this up one more time, but it is that time that I have to renew my web domain once more, and I am asking for your help.

What I am placing is a “tip cup” of sorts. If you enjoy the type of coverage that I feature here at ThisIsBooksMusic.com and would like for it to continue, I am looking for your donation to continue the website for another year, if not more. If you are able to “give a tip” to ThisIsBooksMusic.com, you can do so via PayPal by clicking here. Your private information is secure when you donate via PayPal, and you are also able to make a donation even if you are not a PayPal member. The deadline is September 30th.

While it would be nice for me to run advertising on my website, ThisIsBooksMusic.com is ad-free for a reason, and I’d like to keep it that way. The music I cover is the music I would like for you to listen to and discover for yourself, and pass the information along to those who you think would be interested. This website is about the music I like, support, and listen to on a regular basis, within as many genres as possible. I don’t pick and choose just to make random choices, these are my musical habits, and I share that on a regular basis. If the website is unable to be renewed, all donations will be refunded, no questions asked. If you are able to make a donation, I would be very appreciative.

VIDEO: Menace & Lord’s “Sun, Moon & Stars, Pt.1″

“Sun, Moon & Stars, Pt.1″ sounds like a song that will rise up the British charts very soon, and you can thank Menace & Lord for creating something so nice. They’ll be releasing an album in September (which you can pre-order there), here is its first single. If it doesn’t become an official hit, make it a hit in your mind and heart. The video is said to he the first in a trilogy so if this track doesn’t get to you the first time around, be patient and wait for the next two.

AUDIO: Only Real’s “Pass The Pain”

 photo OnlyReal_old_zps11f847e9.jpg
This man features a lyric in this song that talks about making it to a destination in their underpants, and while it doesn’t mean it’ll be the song of the summer (which is a dated thing, BTW), but it may become the song of your loins. Listen to “Pass The Pain” and watch your veins.

Only Real is a fun man who is planning on releasing his album next year through Harvest Records but until it happens, he’ll be playing at two festivals in Europe and the CMJ Music Festival in NYC in October:

September 18… Hamburg, Germany (Reeperbahn Festival)
October 21-25… New York, NY (CMJ Music Festival)
November 27… , London, England (Hoxton B&K)

To hear more of his songs, check out his official Soundcloud page.

VIDEO: Paul White’s “Where You Gonna Go?”

 photo PaulWhite_old_zps555979b9.jpg
Paul White has released a new video for his song “Where You Gonna Go?”, which is not only his new single due out on September 15th, but it will be released on his forthcoming album called Shaker Notes (R&S), due out on September 30th.

SOME STUFFS: A massive box set is on its way for the Stereo MC’s

 photo StereoMCs_cover_zps89e6d337.jpg
This is not something you came across at Costco or Walmart and said “wow, this is something I need to get before someone steals this from the racks”, it is a legitimate 10 disc (!!!) box set for the Stereo MC’s called Collected, titled this because it’s a collection of nine albums on CD and a DVD, featuring everything they recorded from their 1989 origins until now. The DVD will feature the following:

  • Connected Live Concert
  • Connected Documentary

    Videos
    1. What Is Soul
    2. On 33
    3. Elevate My Mind
    4. Lost In Music
    5. Connected
    6. Step It Up
    7. Ground Level
    8. Creation
    9. Sweetest Truth
    10. Deep Down & Dirty
    11. We Belong In This World Together
    12. Set It Off
    13. Paradise
    14. Soul Girl
    15. Blac

Collected will be released on October 27th, in time for the holiday season.

Devine Carama has busted out with a new track, but it’s only a mere track. It’s an interlude but “The Bar Tactician” doesn’t just sound like something slight, especially when you realize who produced it: Nobody, of Soulmates and Pacific Drift – Western Water Music Vol. 1 fame.

  • SOME STUFFS: “Traitors” is a new EP by Pink Frost on its way soon

     photo PinkFrost_old_zpsd3d7781f.jpg
Four new songs are all you need to be satisfied with a new release from Pink Frost, who will release Traitors in mid-September (16th to be exact) on Smart Like Virus Records, and you can have a quarter sample by listening to “Seek And Recover”.

SOME STUFFS: Run The Jewels have a second LP ready to go

     photo RunTheJewels_old_zpsa83eee6c.jpg
You know about those Run The Jewels kids, you know: El-P and the Mike known as a Killer? Yeah, well you’ll be happy to know that they’ve already finished a second album called RTJ2, hitting faces and thighs on October 28th. If you need proof that this song is done, here’s one song: “Blockbuster Night Part 1″. It’s not all about those noodles, remember that.

BTW: two more dates left to go on their current tour, but they’ll be in Austin, Texas in November for the Fun Fun Fun Fest:

August 22… Denver, CO (Mad Decent Block Party)
August 23… Los Angeles, CA (FYF Fest)
November 7-9… Austin, TX (Fun Fun Fun Fest)

SOME STUFFS: The Rural Alberta Advantage show Canadian pride with music

     photo RuralAlbertaA_old_zpsb461536b.jpg
It may come off like a grandiose name but The Rural Alberta Advantage is not like that. It’s just a bold name for a band who are ready to share their music out of the great white north and into your heart and noggins. Their new album is produced by Leon Taheny and is called Mended With Gold and you know, maybe their sound is grandiose, or at least it will make you feel big and huge. The album will be out on September 9th but you can listen to “On The Rocks” at this very minute. The band are planning to head to the UK in November, see the dates here:
November 21… Birmingham, Engladn (The Hair and Hounds)
    November 22… Glasgow, Scotland (Broadcast)
November 24… Leeds, England (Brundenell Social Club)
November 25… Manchester, England (Soup Kitchen)
November 26… London, England (Islington Assembly)

    AUDIO: Tops’ “Outside”

Early last months, I posted a news piece which began this way:
Montreal quartet Tops are making it to the top again with their new album due out on September 2nd called Picture You Staring (Arbutus)..

They (pictured above) are all about pop music and they’re hoping their creations will lead to a greater and deeper audience. If you enjoyed “Way To Be Loved“, you may find this second selection to be appealing too, this one a love ballad. Check out “Outside” and then tune in inside when you opt to pre-order Picture You Staring directlyu from Arbutus, including on cassette.

    AUDIO: Roger Sellers’ “Waves”

On its way at the end of September is Primitives (Punctum), the new album by Austin’s Roger Sellers. He will be gearing up for a tour in support of it but the album will hit real and online merchants on September 30th. For now, have a listen to the first mist of sound with “Waves”.
