PLEDGE DRIVE: Keep this website alive by making a donation to ThisIsBooksMusic.com

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
It is that time of the year where I have to bring this up one more time, but it is that time that I have to renew my web domain once more, and I am asking for your help.

What I am placing is a “tip cup” of sorts. If you enjoy the type of coverage that I feature here at ThisIsBooksMusic.com and would like for it to continue, I am looking for your donation to continue the website for another year, if not more. If you are able to “give a tip” to ThisIsBooksMusic.com, you can do so via PayPal by clicking here. Your private information is secure when you donate via PayPal, and you are also able to make a donation even if you are not a PayPal member. The deadline is September 30th.

While it would be nice for me to run advertising on my website, ThisIsBooksMusic.com is ad-free for a reason, and I’d like to keep it that way. The music I cover is the music I would like for you to listen to and discover for yourself, and pass the information along to those who you think would be interested. This website is about the music I like, support, and listen to on a regular basis, within as many genres as possible. I don’t pick and choose just to make random choices, these are my musical habits, and I share that on a regular basis. If the website is unable to be renewed, all donations will be refunded, no questions asked. If you are able to make a donation, I would be very appreciative.

SOME STUFFS: Louisiana’s Kind Cousin to release “Tremendous Hem”

 photo KindCousin_old_zpsf66eba12.jpg
King Cousin is from Lafayette, Louisiana, and her forthcoming album is her debut, called Tremendous Hem (MA’AM). Allison Bohl DeHart is the name her grandma knows her as, but Kind Cousin is out to prove herself as an artist, thus the unique moniker. She grew up hearing a wide range of music, but didn’t take to lessons or training. She just sang what she heard, and from it she learned to sing on her own, giving her a voice that made some people look twice, perhaps in doubt that someone like her could sing the way she did. She can be down home country, she can do a bit of gospel, but she can even do some soul, sounding more like a box of old 45′s that remain cherished by everyone in the family. Have a listen to “Gum Wrapper Rings”, which is sure to bring to mind shades of Stax, Motown, and Seven-B.

SOME STUFFS: HO99O9 at Afrofest this afternoon

 photo HO99O9_old_zps668b3999.jpg
If you’re heading to the Afrofest today in Brooklyn at Commodore Barry Park, you will definitely want to spock the band who call themselves HO99O9. They released two new songs specifically for their appearance at the festival (they’ll be on the Black Stage at approximately 1:45pm), which happens to be part of a newly made fanzine called The Beginning Of The End. To take a look at it, and also check out the two new songs, head to bonescraping.tumblr.com. To hear other songs, click to HO99O9‘s official Soundcloud page.

VIDEO: Hammerfall’s “Hector’s Hymn”

Hammerfall’s (r)Evolution has been getting a number of positive reviews, which will be nice when the album comes out on the 2nd of September. From it is “Hector’s Hymn”, which has an old school, Iron Maiden-ish feel but it’s visually modern. The vinyl pressing will be released a week after the MP3 and CD release.

VIDEO: Lacuna Coil’s “Nothing Stands In Our Way”

Broken Crown Halo (Century Media) is the latest album by Lacuna Coil, and from it is a powerful metal track called “Nothing Stands In Our Way”, which has been nicely turned into a video. The album was released this past spring so if you somehow overlooked it, check it out now.

VIDEO: Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe’s “Ashley’s Roachclip (Live at BottleRock 2014)”

Karl Denson and his Tiny Universe decided to stop by in the Jam At The Van place at BottleRock 2014 and during their performance, they decided to play song that has become one of hip-hop’s primary sample sources, Soul Searchers’ “Ashley’s Roachclip”. If you aren’t familiar with the song, press play and you will know it immediately.

VIDEO: Menace & Lord’s “Sun, Moon & Stars, Pt.1″

“Sun, Moon & Stars, Pt.1″ sounds like a song that will rise up the British charts very soon, and you can thank Menace & Lord for creating something so nice. They’ll be releasing an album in September (which you can pre-order there), here is its first single. If it doesn’t become an official hit, make it a hit in your mind and heart. The video is said to he the first in a trilogy so if this track doesn’t get to you the first time around, be patient and wait for the next two.

AUDIO: Only Real’s “Pass The Pain”

 photo OnlyReal_old_zps11f847e9.jpg
This man features a lyric in this song that talks about making it to a destination in their underpants, and while it doesn’t mean it’ll be the song of the summer (which is a dated thing, BTW), but it may become the song of your loins. Listen to “Pass The Pain” and watch your veins.

Only Real is a fun man who is planning on releasing his album next year through Harvest Records but until it happens, he’ll be playing at two festivals in Europe and the CMJ Music Festival in NYC in October:

September 18… Hamburg, Germany (Reeperbahn Festival)
October 21-25… New York, NY (CMJ Music Festival)
November 27… , London, England (Hoxton B&K)

To hear more of his songs, check out his official Soundcloud page.

VIDEO: Paul White’s “Where You Gonna Go?”

 photo PaulWhite_old_zps555979b9.jpg
Paul White has released a new video for his song “Where You Gonna Go?”, which is not only his new single due out on September 15th, but it will be released on his forthcoming album called Shaker Notes (R&S), due out on September 30th.

The DVD will feature the following:

Devine Carama has busted out with a new track, but it’s only a mere track. It’s an interlude but “The Bar Tactician” doesn’t just sound like something slight, especially when you realize who produced it: Nobody, of Soulmates and Pacific Drift – Western Water Music Vol. 1 fame.
