SOME STUFFS: Muneshine & Saint are now The Residents (but not The Residents)

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
From Toronto you have Muneshine.

From Long Island, New York you have Saint.

Together, they are The Residents, and when they released the album Open House in Japan last year, fans of both of them were wondering when it was going to come out stateside. Through Domination Recordings, they are making the album available as a free download. Open House features Rob Swift, Understanding, Edo G., Cadence and Ohmega Watts among others.

You can download it by going here.

Keep in mind that the hip-hop duo known as The Residents have nothing to do with the well known San Francisco-via-Louisiana avant-garde band who have been around since 1969.

There is a slight tie-in, since the cover art for Open House seems to be based on the homes from the intro to the 1980’s ABC sitcom, Full House, which was based in San Francisco:

RECORD CRACK: Cloud Nothings presents two sides of something

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Cloud Nothings is a one man band in the studio, the “group” identity of one Dylan Baldi. His 2009 debut album was released last year on Bridgetown on CD and cassette. Today (February 23rd), Turning On makes its vinyl debut through Speakertree Records (order here.) The vinyl version features one extra song not on the CD/cassette version, and comes with a download code so you can have the entire album as MP3’s.

Cloud Nothings is keeping busy with a brand new 7″ 45 on the Group Tightener label called “Morgan”/”Another Man”, with “Another Man” being a non-LP B-side (nice). Only 250 copies of the 7″ have been pressed. You can download “Morgan” as an MP3 from the Gorilla vs. Bear blog.

VIDEO: K-Beta featuring Mina’s “Come Closer”

K-Beta is coming out with a new album called Inglorious Beta on April 1st. If you’re unfamiliar, check him out here. If the video moves you, you can download the song here (9mb).

SOME STUFFS: Inspectah Deck making more noise in 2010 with new album

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Manifesto is not only Inspectah Deck’s forthcoming album (due out March 23rd), but his fifth solo album is also the third for his own label, Urban Iconz. Those who still respect the Wu-ness will be happy to know that the album features Raekwon and Cappadonna, along with Cormega, Planet Asia, Termanology, Kurupt, and Billy Danze of M.O.P. among others. The Rebel INS once again gets to display his production skills, with additional contributions from The Alchemist, MoSS, Lee Bannon, and more.

If that doesn’t get you going, here’s something that will, “Serious Rappin‘” (Free MP3 download, 4.69mb), featuring Termanology and Planet Asia.

SOME STUFFS / MP3 OF INTEREST: Lullabye Arkestra release free 3-song EP

RECORD CRACK: Clutchy Hopkins finds commonality in the vinyl grit for new album

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The last I heard of Clutchy Hopkins was with the album he did with Lord Kenjamin, Music Is My Medicine (which I reviewed over at Okayplayer.) Mr. Hopkins is back with what he calls The Story Teller (Ubiquity), and the mysteries about this audio wizard continues to grow.

Someone asked me if I was Hopkins, and sadly I had to say no, but I’d love to collaborate with him or her. Until that happens, the new Hopkins album will be released on CD and the trusty vinyl format on April 13th. You can have a brief hint of the album to come by downloading “No Contact…Contact” (5.82mb).

MP3 OF INTEREST: The Who’s “My Generation” featuring will.i.am & Slash now available, proceeds go towards relief efforts in Haiti

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
If you watched yesterday’s Super Bowl XLIV, you may have caught a commercial featuring The Who’s “My Generation” but heard in a different fashion. The co-vocals in that mix was done by none other than will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. What you may not have known was that the song also featured guitarist Slash. While the new version is sure to upset purists, it was not bad at all.

The new mix, created by will.i.am with approval from The Who themselves, has now been released as an MP3. All proceeds will be going to the Oxfam America’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund, a charity selected by will.i.am himself.
