SOME STUFFS: Li Xi twist pop to their advantage with debut album

Li Xi will be releasing their debut album very soon called Meet Me Somewhere, which will be a demonstration of how they mix up different styles of pop with surf music, psychedelic overtones, and trippy dynamics. This San Francisco group will be out with their album on October 15th and they’re not slowing down, for they’re already working on album number two. They’re not waiting for a critical response, they’re just going to play what they love and find their path in this amazing maze. Have a listen to “Pluto”, taken from their album, and get trapped into their flower power tinge of pop.

The band have two shows in their immediate future:
October 23… San Francisco, CA (The Regency Ballroom) ɸ
October 28… San Francisco, CA (Amnesia) ɳ
ɸ = w/ Metronomy & Dawn Golden
ɳ = w/ Haunted Summer

VIDEO: Metronomy’s “I’m Aquarius”

When pop is bad, it can be very bad. When pop is good… well, you know how it goes. Metronomy is someone whom I feel makes some good pop music, and with his Love Letters debut album due out a few weeks before the first day of spring, he wants to make sure people are aware of him and his work. One of the best ways to do it is with a promotional film clip, or what we now know as a music video. “I’m Aquarius” is the solution. The MP3 for the song can be ordered below via Amazon.

REVIEW: Metronomy’s “The English Riviera (Unreleased Remixes)”

Photobucket The title of the new Metronomy album is self-explanatory. The English Riviera (Unreleased Remixes) is a collection of unreleased remixes from their album The English Riviera, and in normal circumstances, that would be the end of this review.

But it’s not.

On the surface, this might sound like easy listening electronic pop, and maybe that’s why they’re about to go on tour with Coldplay this April, but they’re doing the kind of electro-pop that was a major part of pop dance music production in the 1980’s. So many artists, from Daft Punk to Chromeo, are going it, so why not have another? These guys are good at what they do, and with the assistance of remixers like New Villager, Mario Basanov, Wax Cotton, and Ewan Pearson, you get to hear The English Riviera album in an all new fauna. If anything, these remixes might help to bring new life to the original album, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. I found myself enjoying this one a lot, I can easily see this moving dance floors from Wapato to Waipahu.
