Body suits and underwear are the clothing choices for those appearing in “A Note To Self”, the new video by Parenthetical Girls. It could have some deeper meaning, but I’d like to think of it as something that’s just there.
The group will be there, but where? Their tour will be starting next week, click here for a full tour itinerary which will take them to and through SXSW. Which means yes, you too will be able to be there with the Parenthetical Girls. Body suits are optional.
That was the premise for this live performance of “Curtains” by Parenthetical Girls, as they drove through Portland, Oregon to find the boat in question. It might look like an episode of Portlandia or Grimm but then again, both shows are shot in Portland, duh.
Jokes aside, the band find the boat and decided to perform and shoot. This is Part 1 of 4, and in full will be a documentary in support of the release of their Privilege album. In other words, more to come, including the spring tour to begin in two weeks (click here for full tour itinerary.)
If you’d like to read up on the boat itself, the S.S. Shasta, click here.

Now you will be treated with a song from their Privilege album, which is a collection of the 5-part 12″ EP series released throughout 2012. The LP and CD versions come with a bonus DVD featuring the seven videos made during the series.
As Parenthetical Girls continue to release music for their 12″ EP series, the trio are about to go on tour. Unlike a number of bands going on tour in the next few weeks, they will not be heading to this year’s SXSW, which is fine. However, they will be doing shows with Perfume Girls, and you’ll have a number of chances to see them. The show on March 3rd in Portland will feature AU, and then they’ll pause for a few weeks before braving the spring road textures.

Privilege (Slender Means Society) is the brand new album from Parenthetical Girls, but it’s not being released in one lump sum. Instead, the album will be sold as five individual 12″ EP’s, with the first, called On Death & Endearments, will be released on February 23rd.
There will be a video made for one song from each EP, and the first is called “Evelyn McHale”. Here’s the track listing for the EP: Side A 1. Evelyn McHale
2. Someone Else’s Muse
Side B 1. On Death & Endearments
2. Found Drama I
The great thing about this series/album is that they’re still recording it. Each EP will be released quarterly in a limited edition of 500 copies, and in May 2011, the last EP will be released with a special box so that you can store the previous four installments and be able to hear the album as one. The artwork is being done by Jenny Mörtsell, and in the tradition of another band who explored the idea of multiple records, Kiss, each EP will be hand-numbered in the blood of each band member. In the future, when it is possible for normal humans to use DNA to bring back the dead, maybe Parenthetical Girls will be able to tour again in 2281.
The entire series will also be available digitally, but what’s the fun in that?
